Pizza Rules and Calculator

?So the official unofficial pizza rules have been around for more than 20 years, created by some other devs and I to help estimate how much pizza should be purchased and in what varieties. The rules are simple:

  1. Estimate a minimum of three (3) slices per person
  2. Follow the KISS philosophy, and stick to the basics (at least 25% of the pizzas should be plain, the rest can be pepperoni, mushroom, etc.)
  3. If anyone wants a specialty order, like a vegetarian supreme with anchovies, that speciality pizza must be exhausted before they can have any other pizza

Rule 1 is a good starting point and you should never go below this value.  Everyone loves pizza day.  But if you only get a slice or two, wanting more ruins the whole pizza experience.

Rule 2 helps ensure that there will always be an edible version around.  Even if you love pepperoni pizza, you can still eat plain.  But that does not work the other way around, so make sure you have enough plain cheese to go around.

Rule 3 helps ensure that no pizza goes to waste and that no one abuses their privilege to select the kinds of pizza to order.  If someone wants to order the Vegetarian Supreme with Anchovies, fine. But they cannot have just one slice of it, and then go have two slices of pepperoni.  They are not allowed to have any other kind of pizza until their speciality pizzas is gone.  Otherwise they have wasted a pizza, likely leaving other wanting.

Used appropriately, these rules should help ensure that your pizza day will be a successful one, leaving the majority of your guests (if not all of ’em) happy and looking forward to the next one.
